จริงๆ แล้ว While ใช้มาตั้งแต่ อดีต ต่อมามีการพัฒนา คำว่า whilst ขึ้นมาใหม่ และก็ิมีการใช้ สลับไปสลับมา กันได้ มีความหมายเหมือนกัน แปลว่า ในขณะที่

while และ whilst ทำหน้าที่เป็น conjunction (คำสันธาน) ทำหน้าที่เชื่อม ประโยค

เช่น

I read a newspaper while/whilst you were drying your hair. – ฉันอ่านหนังสือพิมพ์ ในขณะที่คุณกำลังทำให้ผมแห้ง

โดยที่ ปัจจุบัน อังกฤษ แบบอเมริกัน มีการใช้ คำว่า Whilst น้อยลง

Toward and towards ต่างกันไหม

Toward and towards สามารถใช้แทนกันได้ มีความหมายเหมือนกัน แปลว่า ไปสู่ หรือไปยัง

ความแตกต่างเดียว คือ Toward ใช้กับ อังกฤษแบบ American แต่ Towards ใช้กับ อังกฤษแบบ อังกฤษ เช่น

I am heading toward Phuket. – ฉันกำลังมุ่งหน้าไปยังภูเก็ต

What are your feelings toward him? – ความรู้สึกของคุณที่มีต่อเขา เป็นอย่างไร

Among and Amongst ต่างกันไหม

ผมขอสรุปง่ายๆ เลยละกัน

Among และ Amongst สามารถใช้แทนกันได้ มีความหมายเหมือนกัน แปลว่า ท่ามกลาง

Among จะใช้มากขึ้นในการเขียนสมัยใหม่ เช่น

• I was among friends last night. – ฉันอยู่ท่ามกลางเพื่อนๆ ของฉันเมื่อคืน
• Unemployment is quite high, especially among young people. – การว่างงานค่อนข้างสูง โดยเฉพาะท่ามกลางวัยรุ่น

Quite (adv) = pretty (adv) = ค่อนข้าง
