There is/There are แปลว่า มี

บางที่เราก็เขียนย่อๆ ว่า There’s หรือ There’re

There is an apple on the table.

There are some apples on the table.

จากการที่เรารู้มาว่า Verb to be ประกอบไปด้วย is/am/are  was/were  been

ดังนั้น รูปแบบอื่นๆ ของ there is/there are เช่น there was/ there were/ there has been/ there have been ล้วนแปลว่า มี

• There were five people at my house yesterday. (มี ความหมายในอดีต)
• There have been so many people in the shop since this morning. (มี ในช่วงระยะเวลา ตั้งแต่อดีตถึงปัจจุบัน)
• There will be a party at John’s house next month. (มี ในอนาคต)
• There will be no force (จะไม่มีการใช้กำลัง)

ส่วนใหญ่นักเรียนมักจะใช้ Has หรือ Have ที่แปลว่า มี ซึ่งมักจะใช้กันผิดๆ

• Have a lot of food on the table.
• It has a lot of food on the table.
• There have a lot of food on the table.
• There is a lot of food on the table.

มาดูรูปแบบต่างๆ  ครับ

บอกเล่า (Statements)

• There’s a bird in my garden.
• There are books on the desk.

ปฏิเสธ (Negatives)

• There isn’t a phone in my bedroom.
• There aren’t any restaurants here.

คำถาม (Questions)

• Is there a restaurant here?
• Yes, there is. / No, there isn’t

I want nobody but you. – ฉันไม่ต้องการใครแต่ต้องการเพียงคุณคนเดียว

I’ve got everything but you. – ฉันมีทุกสิ่งทุกอย่างยกเว้นคุณคนเดียว

Everybody loves me but you. – ทุกๆ คนรักฉันยกเว้นคุณคนเดียว

Nobody understands me but you. – ไม่มีใครเข้าใจฉัน มีแต่คุณคนเดียวที่เข้าใจ

I know everyone here but you. – ฉันรู้จักทุกคนที่นี่ ยกเว้นคุณ

I hate everything but you. – ฉันเกลียดทุกสิ่งยกเว้นคุณ

No one can help me but you. – ไม่มีใครช่วยฉันได้ มีแต่คุณ
