การใช้ There is/There are (back to basics)
There is/There are แปลว่า มี
บางที่เราก็เขียนย่อๆ ว่า There’s หรือ There’re
There is an apple on the table.
There are some apples on the table.
จากการที่เรารู้มาว่า Verb to be ประกอบไปด้วย is/am/are was/were been
ดังนั้น รูปแบบอื่นๆ ของ there is/there are เช่น there was/ there were/ there has been/ there have been ล้วนแปลว่า มี
- There were five people at my house yesterday. (มี ความหมายในอดีต)
- There have been so many people in the shop since this morning. (มี ในช่วงระยะเวลา ตั้งแต่อดีตถึงปัจจุบัน)
- There will be a party at John’s house next month. (มี ในอนาคต)
- There will be no force (จะไม่มีการใช้กำลัง)
ส่วนใหญ่นักเรียนมักจะใช้ Has หรือ Have ที่แปลว่า มี ซึ่งมักจะใช้กันผิดๆ
- Have a lot of food on the table.
- It has a lot of food on the table.
- There have a lot of food on the table.
- There is a lot of food on the table.

บอกเล่า (Statements)
- There’s a bird in my garden.
- There are books on the desk.
ปฏิเสธ (Negatives)
- There isn’t a phone in my bedroom.
- There aren’t any restaurants here.
คำถาม (Questions)
- Is there a restaurant here?
- Yes, there is. / No, there isn’t
